Our CEO and Founder's journey with autism

Isla's Story

"By the time Isla was two years old, she was finally rid of Infantile Spasms but left with debilitating seizures. She had failed most anti-epileptic drugs, ketogenic diet, and a vagal nerve stimulator.  She was diagnosed with autism. Her genome was tested and nothing came back to answer why she had seizures."

Read from our CEO and Founder, Jessica's UDN PEER article where she chats us through her daughter, Isla's diagnosis and what led to her being her daughter's biggest advocate on their autism journey.

Our Foundations

Summit Health Services was founded by Jessica Swanson in 2019.  Jessica’s goals were to create an ABA practice that met the standards she wanted for her non-verbal daughter with autism, and a place where she would love to practice as a BCBA.

Combining Jessica’s experience as a mother and practitioner, SHS was born implementing evidence-based practices of ABA and the standards of care she wants for her own child. Jessica handpicks all staff to ensure the standards are always met.  Since Jessica is also a military spouse, locations are based on where we can serve the most military kids and get them off of lengthy wait lists.

We have a “small company” mentality where a mother and BCBA is at the helm.  We do not answer to big investors as SHS is 100% owned by Jessica with no plans to ever sell to larger national companies.

Our values, our dedication to our clients, our commitment to our team.

Who & How We Serve

With or without a diagnosis, we are here for you.

Applied Behavioral Analytics Therapy is the gold standard in autism care. We have designed our company around the motto of "breadth, not depth" meaning we are looking to serve all who are desperate for ABA therapy.

In doing this we found that the need for access to ABA therapy principals far exceeded just those with a diagnosis. Did you know 1 in 36 people are diagnosed with autism? But how many are just under the diagnosis threshold? How many have behaviors like OCD, anxiety, ADHD and know they would benefit from ABA techniques but without that diagnosis, insurance won't cover services?

Well, that's where we designed our very own Parent Collaboration Model to give access to those seeking care without a diagnosis.

Parent Collaboration Model

Jessica saw the need for access to ABA care went beyond the reach of those with an autism diagnosis. She saw that her desire to bring affordable access to families seeking ABA therapy could also be used in an exclusive, personal to the client opportunity who's behaviors presented milder than that which would receive an ASD diagnosis but still challenging enough to want to correct tendencies like OCD, ADHD, depressive behaviors, and anxieties to name just a few.

All of these more mild behaviors can be supported with ABA techniques. And so, we designed our very own private therapy model giving access to those seeking the benefits of ABA care without the hassle of insurance or struggling to receive and ASD diagnosis.

Military Families Serving Military Families

Proudly Created by An Army Spouse

As many families can relate, access to care in any capacity through insurance is not specific to one family or lifestyle. As an Army spouse, Jessica saw through the lens of the military family that access to care in remote duty stations is detrimental to the life of those seeking ABA therapy.

With determination to reach military families wherever their service took them, Jessica quickly laid the groundwork to become an in-network Tricare provider coast to coast so that no matter the service, no matter the move, there would be an SHS team member waiting for you with open arms to ensure consistency in care wherever your family set roots.

Serving Beyond The Military

In setting down locations nearest military installations, Jessica quickly realized that families outside of the military were being faced with years long waitlists for ABA Therapy. Like any person with a heart called to serve, Jessica knew our reach needed to span beyond military families in order to keep with her desire to create affordable access to care no matter the location, military or civilian.

SHS works around the clock to ensure we are credentialed providers with insurances like BCBS, CareFirst, CIGNA in order to serve all.

The Most Qualified For Your Peace of Mind

We Believe In Quality, Not Quantity

Each member of our team, whether they are a provider or an administrator is hand selected by our CEO, Jessica. This is to ensure that you are forever receiving the best care, based on her clinical expertise as a BCBA as well as her being the mother to an ASD diagnosed kiddo.

We know that pairing therapist and client is imperative to your success and once that pairing happens, we do everything in our capacity to nurture and keep that relationship solid. We do not believe in "shuffling and cycling" therapists. We are committed to consistency of care which is why we build teams across our locations dedicated to the same quality of care Jessica would expect for her Isla.

Are You A Military Spouse Seeking A Career?

Being that we were founded by a military spouse and many of our team members are military spouses, we understand the stressors of PCSing every few years and the burden that produces when seeking employment and providing value to your community.

Because of this, we designed our Military Spouse Career Program. Once a team member joins SHS, no matter where your spouses service takes you, we will place you within any of our locations nearest you. State to state, coast to coast, know that we are with you!
